Ezra raises $3.2M seed to rebuild hiring screens around voice conversations

Source: GlobeNewswire · Mar 18, 2026

Resume screening has long been the weakest link in hiring — keyword matching rewards resume-writing skill more than job skill, and it's trivially gameable with AI-assisted resume tuning. Ezra's pitch is to replace that first screening step entirely with a structured voice conversation, run and scored by AI, and the company has now raised a $3.2 million seed round to build it out. Backers include Penny Jar Capital, LMNT Ventures, a16z Speedrun, and Telegraph Hill Capital.

The core product puts candidates through a live, structured voice conversation rather than a form or a resume upload. The system scores responses and — notably — includes built-in cheat detection, addressing a problem that has become urgent across the assessment industry as candidates increasingly use AI copilots to answer screening questions in real time. By moving the interaction to voice, Ezra is betting that spontaneous, conversational responses are both harder to fake convincingly and more informative about a candidate's actual communication and reasoning ability than a written answer ever was.

This is a direct entrant into a fast-moving category: AI-run structured hiring conversations that generate scored, comparable candidate signal. The seed size is small relative to some of the better-funded players in voice-AI hiring, but the founding thesis — voice-first, cheat-resistant, replacing resume screening specifically rather than the full interview loop — is a focused wedge into a real, painful part of the hiring funnel.
